The Patriots Foundation honored the 2019 Myra Kraft Community MVP winners during a luncheon at Gillette Stadium on Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2019. Among the recipients was Sesay Johnson, founder and Executive Director of the GrowHope Foundation. The 26 volunteer winners, representing all six New England states, received grants for the nonprofit organizations where they volunteer. There were 25 winners of $10,000 and one grand prize winner.

About 20 years ago, Sesay Johnson came to the U.S. for computer technology training. He settled in Brockton after the second phase of the civil war prevented him from returning to Liberia. Since then, Mr. Johnson has been inspired to give back to the community that took him in and allowed him to thrive. He currently serves as Vice President of Information Technology and Services for a nonprofit organization in Brockton. Sesay achieved this through the GrowHope Foundation. This group received a $10,000 grant from the New England Patriots Foundation. This grant was to expand its volunteer efforts in providing young Brockton students with an introduction to computer programming – coding.

“I came from somewhere with little to nothing, and people helped me along the way,” said Sesay. “I firmly believe that if you instill a quality education in children, then you cannot take that away from them, and the community will be a better place to live.”
